I have noticed that many J-landers are suffering with bronchitis or pneumonia at this time, brought on in part by severe winter weather and sometimes the wonderful healthcare system in the US, which puts money before patients. Sorry, was unable to leave that out. I wish you all a speedy recovery. If you were given antibiotics, please finish your course.
A number of J-landers have suspended their blogs for personal reasons. I hope all will manage to return to the community soon.
Oh, by the way, it is February 22nd. Only a week to go until March, and only a month to go and it will be spring.

I just wanted to say that I have heard some blasts against the "wonderful healthcare system in the US" (as you put it) by UKers and the like. This has really hurt me. I love my healthcare system. I have gotten excellent care, and have never been asked for more than $1 or $2 for a copay for excellent care, and often I am asked for nothing. My premium (the amount I pay for my insurance montly is $0. It is based on my income. When I went to the hospital the other day they asked me for no money, after checking my insurance card. They never ask me for any money. They just ask to bill the insurance company. They also handed me a sheet of paper which read, "If you have no insurance or money, you WILL be seen for free". If you did earn something for a living, they may ask you to pay a very minimal amount in the future but they DENIED nobody. This nonsense that our system is no good irks me. The most I have ever paid for my meds is $2. But I usually pay $0 to $1. And my healthcare is EXCELLENT. Just wanted to sound off to that.
Just wanted to say they found my pneumonia immediately (thru an x-ray), gave me two breathing treatments, gave me double strength antibiotics, set me up with followup treatments, have nurses calling me at home, and have me call up anytime I need it. Also they gave me a home breathing machine.
Please don't speak about our system unless you have been in it!
Love you all,
Krissy :)

Sorry, I didn't mean to seem harsh, LOL, I just love our system. I know there are some anecdotal examples where things go wrong. I am just saying as a whole I like our system. I hope I haven't offended anyone by my comment. That wasn't my intent. Let's just all be friends!

Krissy is quite right that I should not lambast a system I have not experienced at first hand. I am aware that the US healthcare system has saved her husband's life, and note that she has a positive experience. My jibe stems from what I read in some journals.
I wholeheartedly agree with you and the atrocious, unequitable healthcare system here. This has been one horrible winter with the flu which is what is spawning all the bronchitis and pneumonia. I'm feeling a bit blue about all those not journaling right now. Chris
